Library Collection

The Cotter Harvey Library is a unique and valuable collection of leading respiratory and sleep journals and is one of the few respiratory and sleeplibraries in Australia. It provides access to journals, ejournals, monographs, slides, videos and CD-ROMs.

The facility is open to the staff and students of the Woolcock, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, The University of Sydney and the general public.

The Library was established in 1985 following a donation from friends and family of the late Dr Cotter Harvey. Books and journals were subsequently received from the personal collections of Professor Ann Woolcock and Professor C Ruthven Blackburn.

In 1986 the NSW Department of Health added to the collection by donating back runs of Thorax and a number of books for respiratory physicians. Dr Maurice Joseph also made a significant contribution when he donated 2,500 annotated slides, representing 35 years of respiratory medical practice, in May 1987.

The library was housed in the Page Chest Pavilion until September 1997 when the Institute's administration and library were relocated to Building 82 (Atherden and Walker Building). This was made possible through a generous donation by the Reid Charitable Trust.

The Woolcock library was relocated to Level 6, Building F 88 Mallett St in December of 2003.

The Woolcock library was finally relocated to its present location on Level 3, 431 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, in May of 2008.
